This position is responsible for providing technical dimensional interpretation, direction and control; and provide necessary recommendations to efficiently comply with contract requirements and improve structural accuracy to the extent it improves overall production efficiency. The function of an Accuracy Control Engineer is to support development of dimensional data collection processes, analyze data, and evaluate trends for areas of improvement. In part this position will manage assigned production processes through data collection, data presentation, and solutions of problems related to dimensional accuracy improvements. Also, will monitor, maintain current and accurate shipyard accuracy control procedures. Shall support manufacturing to evaluate and apply improvements in efficiencies through existing and/or new accuracy control and measurement methods, techniques, or processes. Will be responsible to the Lead Accuracy Control Engineer and work with all organizations as their support affects accuracy control of ship structure and equipment installation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Collect, monitor, analyze, chart, track, and store AC measurements. Determine appropriate controls and features for fabricated and structural assemblies to meet desired configurations. Prepare accuracy control data for presentation. Support development of processes, practices, guidelines, and procedures to collect, execute, monitor, control, and improve dimensional accuracy. Assess data and evaluate measurements for necessary further Engineering product disposition. Provide guidance to manufacturing personnel on measurement methods. Provide implementation or technical information to planning for incorporation into production paperwork. Support development of training information and delivery of training materials to supervision and trades. Provide corrections, anomalies, or improvement items to design engineering for improved accuracy and control of structural geometry. Must abide by and enforce all organizational policies and procedures. Participate in regular interface meetings with Lead Engineers, Manufacturing Supervisors, Planning, Quality Control, and trades, as necessary, support development of methods, data collection, analysis, and improvements. Attend meetings as an Accuracy Control Team member to participate in resolution of issues as related to the assigned projects. Participants of these meetings could involve: 1) the Program Manager/Project Engineer, MMC Manufacturing and Test personnel, Quality Control personnel, Construction Support Engineering, and Planning personnel. Setup "as required" meetings with the drafters, designers, and/or production personnel to support training, clarify assignments, and resolve production issues. Maintain direct communication with supervision, trades, and QA for execution of the accuracy control requirements. Prepare and support development of written accuracy control instructions and/or associated training documents for QMS compliance of manufacturing personnel. Support AC surveyors and others requiring dimensional information. Develop and train to procedures that improve product accuracy. As required" meetings with potential outside providers of products and services (i.e. equipment suppliers) designed to meet project contract requirements are established and supported. "As required" meetings and/or presentations with customer or prime contractor personnel to resolve issues ranging from functional design technical compliance to structural construction tolerances clarifications. Interface with other organizations regarding practices, equipment, and measuring structure which potentially improve our methods. SKILLS Assess dimensional controls necessary to achieve desired product configuration. Understand and use statistical methods to discover root/core problems and demonstrate process control. Have the ability to use AutoCAD (2D and 3D) and 3D model information included in ShipConstructor models to validate record dimensions. Read and understand structural drawings. Collect, organize, and evaluate, and chart dimensional data. Understand tolerances, allowances, and recognize relevant geometry control characteristics. Must have strong Microsoft Office Suites computer skills. Must have strong organizational and time management skills. Must have the ability to maintain a p rofessional demeanor. Must have effective written and verbal communication skills. Must have ability to maintain confidentiality.
