Job Description

Job Summary

Responsible for rendering nursing care to patients in an urgent care setting that serves a population from newborns to the elderly. Demonstrates knowledge of the anatomy, physiology and complications of the ill and injured individuals who present to the Urgent Care department for evaluation and treatment. Responsible for assisting with exam or treatment as requested by Physician.

Will perform duties consistent with the needs of the communities served, in a manner that reflects the physical, psychological and spiritual healing ministry of Christ. Qualifications

Education:
Must have successfully completed an accredited registered nurse training program and have two years recent experience as a registered nurse. Current registration with Indiana State Board of Nurses required. CPR Provider-C required.

Experience:
Two years recent experience in emergency services or critical care preferred.

Training:
3 months; this may vary at the discretion of the Supervisor. ACLS certification within one year of employment is required.

  Performance Requirements

Responsibility:
Accurate assessment, planning and implementation of patient care. Documents and maintains accurate and complete nursing records. Supervises implementation of physicians orders. Prepares equipment and assists during treatments and examinations. Assists in patient education. Maintains a safe and clean environment. Maintains and orders stock in exam rooms and medical supply inventories. Maintains patient safety and comfort. Follows established Infection Control and Universal Precautions policies and procedures. Provides nursing care to patients with urgent medical needs; serves as first line clinical triage to all patients.
Thorough knowledge of the anatomy, physiology and complications of ill and injured individuals who present to Urgent Care for evaluation and treatment. Provides appropriate management of injuries, poisonings, and medical situations requiring immediate care.

Both internal and external personal contacts made on an ongoing basis, with excellent interpersonal skills/relationships a must.

Special Demands:
Internal contacts with staff, patients and family members. External contacts with other physicians, hospital staff, as well as patients and their families. Tactfulness, judgement, courteousness, patience, positive attitude and the ability to work cooperatively with others required on an ongoing basis to adequately perform in this job. Maintains confidentiality, discusses patient data or other related work information only with authorized personnel or physician in appropriate setting. Responsible for participation and compliance of departmental customer service plan and goals. Reflects the mission, philosophy, core values and customer service plan of Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in action and attitude. Excellent critical thinking skills; independent of need of constant supervision

Physical Demands:
Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Much pulling, pushing and lifting required. Visual, auditory and speech acuity essential to supervising nursing care and evaluating patient needs. Requires working under stressful conditions and must be able to work irregular hours. Requires exposure to communicable diseases, toxic chemicals and/or fumes, and potentially dangerous body fluids.
Urgent care is open from 8:00am to 6:00 pm daily.  Closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas.
