Job Description

An internship with the National MS Society is a form of experiential learning that integrates knowledge and theory learned in the classroom with practical application and skills development in a professional setting.

 

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society is a national non-profit that exists because there are people with MS. Our vision is a world free of MS. This internship will assist with all functions of development, logistics and volunteer engagement. These tasks will include relationship and fundraising support for Walk and Bike MS, sponsor relations, volunteer recruitment, recognition, and training, administrative and database management, and logistical activities such as inventory, packing room set up/take down as well as packing for the event.

Day to Day Specific Responsibilities 50% - development work (relationship and fundraising support) Internal & External Communications Making calls to fundraisers, team captains Ongoing development of In-Kind sponsor prospect lists to provide goods and services that will enhance the event experience. Marketing- customizing team posters, social media posts 25% VE support Assisting staff with volunteer group recruitment Working with volunteers on daily projects 25% Logistics support Assist with monthly budget reviews Take a role with inventory management Assist with event permitting Assist with development of timelines and management of event

Learning Objectives Gain relevant work experience in non-profit development, event production and volunteer engagement fieldfrom the beginning of an event season (Jan) seeing it through to the actual event (April/May) Learn effective strategies in building strong relationships, building and maintaining a network and working as part of a team. Develop project management, communication, budgeting, relationship and problem-solving skills through management of assigned projects. What You Will Bring: Currently pursuing a degree as a Junior or Senior in Undergrad or any year in Graduate School Open to all majors with a preference for the following: Business Studies, Communications, Entrepreneurship, Event Management, Hospitality Management, Leadership Management, Non-Profit Management, Organizational Leadership, Public Relations, Project Management, Recreation Services, Sociology, Social Work or Sports Leadership/Management Ability to work 10-16 weeks (flexible), 12-20 hours (flexible) per week for a maximum of 180 hours during the course of the internship Familiar with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, etc.) Eagerness to learn in a virtual environment (where applicable) Ability to represent the National MS Society in a professional manner Detail oriented and strong organizational skills Great written and verbal communication skills Must be personable, outgoing and self-motivated Ability to work part of a team and independently Capacity to lead a group of volunteers to complete tasks/projects Adaptable, flexible and open to projects with a desire to learn Ability to step up as a leader when the opportunity presents itself Occasional/Potential work outside of regular business hours Access ti a computer and webcam If you do not have access to a computer with capability to video conference, one will be provided in office, or loaned to you for the duration of the Internship and returned to the Society at completion of internship. Knowledge of computer programs (Microsoft Office, CRM systems a plus) and data entry procedures Must be phone and internet research savvy What We Will Offer:

This is a REMOTE paid internship available for Spring 2022. The hourly rate is $15. If you are unable to be paid for this internship due to outside funding or other directives from your educational institution -- please let your hiring manager know AFTER you have been identified as the final candidate.
