Responsible for vegetable raw product, including Sweet Corn, Green Beans, and root crops contracted and grown for Del Monte processing facilities. Foresee areas of compression in the harvest schedule, due to weather related events, and make the needed adjustments to maintain quality before the crop matures to the point where it no longer meets Del Monte Quality. This position reports directly to the Senior Manager, Field. Food Safety and Quality responsibilities include: Ensure product safety through development, review and enforcement of company policy Ensure compliance with local, state, federal and corporate food safety regulatory standards Review and enforce company quality standards provided by facility, regional and corporate quality authorities.
40% Liaison – Assist with and develop the knowledge, skill and ability to:
Contract acreage with current growers and pursue new vegetable growers; serving as a primary company contact for area farmers who are under contract to grow product for the company; maintain productive and harmonious relations with the farmers throughout the year; procure raw product for pack; coordinate delivery of product for pack; seek out and establish new grower contracts.
25% Management – Assist with and develop the knowledge, skill and ability to:
Supervise and coordinate planting; supervise growing of vegetables; create area planting schedules; forecast and help manage harvest; assist in the company’s Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program; assist in the effective utilization of harvest equipment and manpower in a manner that supports annual crop production plans. Assist and manage Sustainability Initiatives in your area of responsibility to achieve corporate goals.
10% Information - Assist with:
Providing prompt and accurate raw product quality information, and help identify potential problems that may affect product quality and production; provide prompt and accurate communication to growers throughout growing and harvest season. Utilize information improve current crop production strategies and implement methods to improve IPM and sustainable initiatives. Support and utilize current computer software to improve and update data collection and reporting processes for food safety.
10% Safety - Assist with:
Ensure compliance with all approved and applicable safety rules in the employee's area of responsibility. This includes ensuring that accurate pesticide use reporting and regulations are adhered to for crops under responsibility.
5% Development - Assist with:
The development of raw product contracts with area farmers to ensure an adequate supply of raw product to meet processing quotas vegetable and all root crops. Individual needs to continue to develop skills to improve knowledge of fertility and IPM practices by attending applicable educational opportunities.
5% Pesticides - Assist with:
Directing the timely application of pesticides to vegetable crops to ensure maximum raw product quality at costs consistent with the Annual Operating Plan (AOP); assist in the direction and audit recordkeeping system for grower and Del Monte applied pesticides to ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal pesticide regulations; Conduct effective scouting programs for field pests to ensure the companies IPM program is followed to make certain that maximum raw product quality is maintained with minimum total application of pesticides.
5% Del Monte Production System - Assist with:
Support, facilitate and assist in the implementation of the facility's Lean initiatives.
Other Duties as assigned.
Qualifications: 4 Yr. Degree Related to Ag, Horticulture, Agronomy, Business or combination of related experience in agricultural / supervisory positions and also willing to pursue continuing education to receive related degree. 3-5 years within Agricultural or food production industry.
