Job Description

Position Summary

Reporting to Senior Food Technologist, the Food Technologist will manage customer food safety and quality compliance requirements and initiatives for Olam Spices (OS). This position will interact with manufacturing plants of assigned product categories to provide technical expertise, leadership, and problem-solving capabilities. This position will work with customers to resolve complaints and other food safety and quality issues to meet customer satisfaction. The Food Technologist will perform required analysis of the food, ingredients, raw and finished goods. They will analyze data, interpret results, and write reports. The Food Technologist will also extract data from SAP program and perform analysis of complaint trend and communicate the challenges and opportunities to the plant level as well as the senior management on a regular basis.

The ideal candidate for this position will have a strong food science background. They should work well individually, as well as on a diverse team. They should be able to effectively manage multiple competing demands while ensuring accuracy and timeline requirements.

 

 

Position Responsibilities Utilize SAP-QMQN for complaint processing from plant assignment to responding to customers. Use the system to close and track food safety and/or quality complaints. Capture data and communicate with customers on complaints.  Coordinate complaint analysis and provide the required data to the Quality Assurance (QA) Managers. Coordinate and conduct routine conference calls with Product Line Managers (PLM), Plant Managers (PMs), Quality Assurance (QA) Managers and other plant department personnel for complaints updates. Communicate with Customer Operations Team in the data collection to ensure complaints are correctly processed and data entries are accurate. Assign and communicate with plants for complaint investigation and complete the investigation cycle by coordinating with the plant investigator(s). Write responses to customer complaints providing required details on product root cause analysis with appropriate corrective action plans. Coordinate sample collection and conduct analysis, either at internal or external laboratories to analyze data, interpret, and report. Maintain all data in SAP and provide monthly reports to the QA team for decision making and action planning. Demonstrate proactive attitudes in approaching food safety and quality solutions to customer issues. Communicate effectively to influence and educate customers. Visit customers and suppliers on-site to provide technical troubleshooting with root cause analysis and provide recommendations for improvement and resolution. Assist in the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) or any Certification pre-audit exercises at various assigned plant locations. Assist in Supplier Quality management. Assist in internal Quality system compliance and document control. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Position Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Microbiology, Food Chemistry or related field is required.   Preventative Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) and HACCP certification is required. Three (3) years of relevant work experience in food analysis related to vegetables, spices, and related consumer products is required. Understanding of basic food processing and analytical techniques in chemical and microbiological analysis is required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products is required. Ability and willingness to learn new systems, such as the SAP platform, is required. Strong attention to detail and ability to manage food safety and quality assurance data and information from customers and plants in the central repository is required. Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously is required. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are required. Ability to communicate efficiently with cross functional team members and customers is required. Desire and ability to travel, up to 5% of the time, across North America and internationally is required.
