Job Description

Job Summary
To perform the duties necessary to keep the physical structure and associated equipment of the Hospital in good repair. Perform preventative maintenance, corrective and routine repairs in electrical, mechanical and HVAC equipment. Must be able to perform troubleshooting and repair on major Hospital systems and equipment. Service will be consistent with the mission and philosophy of Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center. Provides these services to all customers regardless of age (from birth to maturity), sex or national origin.

Qualifications
Education:
High school graduate or equivalent with courses in blueprint reading, mechanical drawing, general mathematics, and mechanics. A two-year technical degree in the maintenance field is preferred.   Experience:
At least 3 years experience in the maintenance field and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.   Job Knowledge, Skills and Ability:
Able to provide technical assistance to engineers by troubleshooting and resolving problems associated with operation and repair of utilities and equipment. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Thorough knowledge of tools, equipment and instruments of the trade. This ability will be demonstrated by on-the-job observation, written and/or oral evaluation.

Performance Requirements
Performing all assigned tasks in a professional manner as to reflect the highest integrity of the department. Possessing knowledge of major hospital systems and equipment, i.e., utilities, life safety, air conditioning, medical gas, commercial kitchen equipment, commercial laundry equipment, etc. Performing requisitioned, corrective, emergency and preventative maintenance of electrical distribution, mechanical, HVAC, power generation, plumbing, and medical gas systems and building structures as required. Inspecting, calibrating, adjusting, lubricating and repairing or replacing components as necessary. Diagnosing systems malfunctions on mechanical and electrical equipment. Repairing or replacing defective parts. Assisting in the training of personnel in the operation and repair of equipment. Assisting in maintaining records to ensure compliance with state, federal and Joint Commission regulations. Assuming responsibilities for the Plant Engineering Department in the event of absence, illness or vacation of the Plant Engineering Supervisor. Maintaining routine records of all inspections, preventative maintenance and repairs performed on any equipment or system. Reading blueprints, interpreting instructions and communicating effectively. Possessing knowledge of the use and maintenance of plant tools, equipment and instruments. Performing other tasks
when the need arises such as snow removal, moving furniture and equipment, etc.   Physical Demands:
Good hearing, good vision and depth perception with or without corrective devices. The job requires standing and walking most of the day; lifting and carrying of items weighing up to 100 pounds; moving various items by bending, lifting, pushing, pulling and squatting.   Special Demands:
Ability to do work on his/her own without supervision. Knowledge and observance of safety precautions. Works day, evening or night shift as assigned. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places; in outside weather conditions; and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, risk of radiation, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Reflects the mission, philosophy, core values, and customer service plan of Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in action and attitude.
