Job Description

ESSENTIAL PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION:

Responsible for leading and overseeing marketing activities for a $300+ million-dollar industrial distribution business.  As a key business partner, the Director will collaborate with the sales and supply chain in developing the strategic plan.  Responsibilities for developing and implementing marketing strategies for targeting the company’s key market segments, including assessments of product mix, sales planning tactics, pricing strategy and advertising and promotional activities.  This position will also be responsible for identifying and implementing the e-commerce strategy, management of ESB supplier base, including targeting new suppliers and products as appropriate, to grow the business. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Strategic Planning –Responsible for coordinating development of annual 3-year strategic plan to be presented to the corporate parent Product line management –Develop and implement marketing strategies for key product lines, including sales planning, pricing strategy, and advertising and promotional activities while measuring the impact of these marketing strategies. Target new suppliers and products as appropriate to complement and enhance the SXB line.  Management of sub-distributors (e.g. Dunbar) Supplier relationship management –Own relationships with supplier base. Drive agendas for business updates, training, and other sales interaction.  Develop and implement supplier scorecards to measure performance and compliance Pricing –Collaborate with pricing functions for lead development and implementation of Essex Brownell’s pricing strategy. Collaborate closely with Sales to establish clear commercial pricing strategy.  Ensure responsive and effective quoting activity to help drive overall sales objectives.  Establish pricing metrics, monitor and drive improvements Business Development –Evaluate new market and product line opportunities (e.g., alternative energy, HEV, electronics) and develop entry strategies where appropriate. Support as needed for business development activities, including product line additions and branch expansions.  Assist in business case development E-commerce –Continue to define an e-commerce strategy that will generate the incremental sales and facilitate the ease of doing business for Essex Brownell and our customers Brand –Build and maintain the Essex Brownell brand. Drive upgrades of visual aesthetics in company lobbies, tradeshow supplies and promotional products Market research –Lead the collection and analysis of competitive intelligence and measurement of market share for product lines and families. Other research as needed to support business development opportunities Forecasting –Provide procurement team with demand forecasts by product line and geography to maximize sales while optimizing inventory. Develop an Essex Brownell SOP process appropriate for a distributor and manage its implementation Internal and external communications –Manage development of all Essex Brownell internal and external communication (e.g., announcements, town hall meetings, press releases, social media, etc.)

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s Degree in business, marketing, finance or a related field (required) Master’s Degree in business administration, marketing or a related field (preferred) Ten or more years of relevant experience, with at least 5 of those years in a Distribution environment (required) Five or more years of Global experience with product and service knowledge in industrial markets (preferred)
