Job Description

The Materials Manager - Men's Footwear is responsible for delivering new leathers, non-leathers, and stitch-lite / engineered knits to the aesthetic and technical needs for the product creation team.

This role will report into the Director of Product Development-Men's and will develop new materials ensuring an optimum balance of design aesthetics while meeting physical property, cost and manufacturing requirements. Additionally, this individual will be responsible for managing the material creation process in partnership with creative, design, product development, and material sourcing departments.

 

CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES: Manage the material creation process from the initial concept through the buy ready process and into commercialization

Calendar Management: Drive calendar discipline through pro-active up and down stream peer management Adhere to the Go-To-Market critical dates and calendar Monitor material deliverables from first proto through road lots to meet calendar deadlines

Aesthetic and Technical Execution: Develop and deliver extraordinary products with the right aesthetics, quality and price; Coordinate vendor meetings and support Footwear Design/Creative, Sourcing and Development teams Recognize trend, color, material hand-feel and leather finishing throughout the product creation process; Provide viable contingencies where original intent is not achievable Partner with the product creation team to establish seasonal material direction for Dress, Casual, Sport, and outdoor categories Develop materials to required technical standards; Manage through a high-risk materials process

Cost Management: Maximize price to value of materials through understanding consumer needs and competitor benchmarking; Apply price to value principles to all material specifications Partner with Product development, Design and Merchandising to ensure margins, market needs, and end-use needs are met

Library Ownership: Build and maintain a user friendly, intuitive virtual and physical materials library; Create and manage seasonal materials charts from concept through to commercialization Manage pre-standard and master swatch process and libraries; Create and manage seasonal material charts Embrace and utilize the PLM operating platform as a primary vehicle for managing the footwear materials library; Provide support, manage, and communicate material details to PLM data entry team Communicate with overseas materials team and vendors to obtain material prices, lead-times and minimums
Bachelor's Degree in related field and / or: 3-5 years prior experience in materials sourcing and development Knowledge and understanding of Leather, Textiles, Synthetics and Components Understanding of Footwear Development process strongly preferred Experience in working and communicating with Asia based offices, tanneries and mills Highly motivated with strong creative, organizational and planning skills and the ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously Communication skills and highly organized Exceptional follow-through skills and attention to detail  Collaborative and team player Possess strong computer skills (PLM, Microsoft Excel & Microsoft Word) ; Adobe Illustrator experience a plus
