ATI is seeking to hire a Metallurgical Engineer for our Forged Products business division. This position will be based in Irvine, CA.
This position will be responsible for materials, processes, and products development and qualification with the customers in the aerospace market segment. Collaborate on cross-functional teams including Technology, Sales, Operations and Quality Assurance on business strategic and manufacturing related projects in quality cost control and manufacturing process efficiencies.
A successful metallurgical engineer will quickly grasp ATI's business processes, technology, and products. A strong problem solving and troubleshooting skillset is needed in this role. These products are highly technical in nature and are developed to strict customer requirements.
Develop and improve the understanding of materials processing through fundamental research, material characterization and scaling up to production readiness. Provide technical input and metallurgical guidance with proper evaluation by applying fundamentals of materials science and engineering to the Technology, Engineering and Manufacturing staff for process design and production execution. Reviewing order inquiries to assess our ability to meet customer requirements. Working directly with customers, sales and the process design team on new product development opportunities. Continuously improving current processes to positively impact quality, productivity and cost. Interacting directly with Quality Assurance and supporting the sales team to address any customer technical concerns. Establishing relationships and interacting with many other ATI operating locations to learn and share best practices.
Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science (metals focus)
Master’s Degree in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science. Experience with project development, implementation and management is desired. Experience with process analysis, conducting controlled experiments and the ability to summarize data is a requirement.
Skills Candidates must also have strong teamwork, leadership, communication, and organization skills. Problem solving skills Ability to perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions. Fundamental Personal Computer skills are required with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office software packages. Knowledge statistical analysis and Six Sigma training are a plus.
