Under the direction of the Unit Director, the Charge Nurse (CN) is responsible on a shift basis for the operations of a specific clinical unit such that it complies with hospital and nursing philosophy, policies and procedures. The Charge Nurse assists the Unit Director and Patient Care Managers in ensuring the delivery of patient care through the nursing process by assisting with staffing issues, and serving as liaison between administration and staff during the assigned shift. The individual demonstrates personal and professional responsibility; participates in creating an atmosphere of teamwork and coordination; and assumes responsibility for own professional development.
Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates patient care.
Assesses the needs of assigned patients using sound judgement and critical thinking and charts reflect timely comprehensive and systematic patient assessment.
Plans of care and documentation reflect specific and measurable outcomes, education and family involvement in the case.
Recognizes crisis situations and intervenes immediately. Interventions and responses are appropriated accurately documented. Responds to all customer requests in an appropriate and timely manner.
Assumes professional responsibility and accountability in collaborating with physicians and other members of the health care team to establish and achieve desired patient outcomes and promote continuity of care.
The RN delegates work to other team members as appropriate; evaluates team and provides direct care. Assumes responsibility for validating hourly rounding nurse 1 PCT to meet fluid, to lifting and safety needs of patient.
Demonstrates responsibility for own competency (see age specific attachment), mandatories and annual performance evaluation by maintaining all personal performance and competency assessment data up to date: attends all required programs: meets ABN CEU requirements by obtaining 12 ABN CEU credits annually.
Prepares for annual performance evaluation conference through submission of Director required documentation the month prior to evaluation date.
Provides unit orientation and continuing education as appropriate of students and employees. Acts as a preceptor for new staff. Supports activities for making new personnel feel welcomed and important.
Adheres to and consistently supports professional standards and health care regulations that provide for and promote safety, quality patient care and patient satisfaction.
Demonstrates responsibility for maintaining knowledge base of current unit and hospital communication through a variety of modalities including but limited to communication books, posted notices, meeting minutes, Jackson Hospital intranet and Jackson Hospital email. Unrestricted AL RN license or Multi State RN license, experience preferred. BLS
