Job Description

About Omron:

Omron Robotics and Safety Technologies, Inc. (ORT) develops social-needs driven solutions for the automation market. We combine advanced sensing and functional-safety technologies to eliminate hazards faced by people in dull, dirty, or dangerous environments.

We develop new electronics, mechanics and software for an exceptionally broad spectrum of robots – including autonomous mobile robots, articulated robots, parallel link robots, collaborative robots, and more. Our product development teams have a passion for innovation, and a track record of developing successful products for the global market.

ORT Marketing, Engineering and Manufacturing teams are responsible for all phases of a robot’s lifecycle, from Concept to Prototype to Production. We have factories in the US, China, Japan and the Netherlands for mass production of our robots.

ORT is headquartered in Silicon Valley and is part of the automation giant Omron IAB (Industrial Automation Business).

In January 2020, ORT moved into a brand new facility that is over 130,000 square feet in size in Pleasanton, California.

About the Job:

We are looking for a creative and driven engineer to help us develop new robotic technology.

At ORT, our engineers have all the benefits of being backed by the global presence of the Omron Corporation, while maintaining the entrepreneurial spirit usually reserved for smaller companies. Here you will be more than just a cog in a big corporate machine; you will play a crucial role in the process of taking new products from idea to global launch. Along the way you will be able to see how your contributions have led to a more valuable and robust solution.

Come learn from a talented engineering team and provide valuable input to project managers, software developers, mechanical and electrical engineers and quality engineers to ensure that we produce the right products for our customers’ needs.

You will create and execute the verification tests that prove our products will deliver as promised. That means writing software to automate tests, and getting your hands dirty building and debugging prototypes, fixtures, and tools to enable product development and testing. This experience equips ORT systems engineers with expertise that makes them valuable team-members across all engineering disciplines.

Primary Responsibility:

Create and execute functional- and design-verification tests for the Omron Adept robot controller hardware and software.

Specific Duties:

Create software/hardware functional tests that compliment developers' unit tests, in order to test individual subroutines and classes of the programming language for Omron robots. Write and execute Design Verification Tests (DVT) for industrial robots, their controllers, sensors, peripheral devices, and the software that defines their behavior. Perform systems engineering tests that incorporate both hardware and software. Work with Product Marketing and Project Management teams to understand and help design product architecture and how to perform verification & validation testing on new robot products. Create clear and concise reports and present your work and recommendations. Work with our customers on feasibility studies.

Job Level:   Intermediate

  Special Requirements:

C++ or C# programming skills Test software experience PLC programming and configuration experience EtherCAT protocol experience a plus Technical application engineering experience Hardware debugging and test experience Ability to setup and use lab test equipment Strong organizational skills Proven ability to work within cross-functional teams
