Reporting to Director of Customer Operations the Transportation Manager will manage the entire shipping, transportation and traffic activities for Olam Spices and Chile Peppers locations. The Transportation Manager will be responsible for implementing and executing procedures and standards for traffic and transportation. They will be responsible delivering on financial objectives for the transportation area.
The ideal candidate will be detail orientated, self-motivated, and possess strong communication skills. They must be able to prioritize and execute multiple priorities and leverage their team to ensure success.
Position Responsibilities Manage a team of direct reports to deliver on the creation, application. and coordination of transportation standards across Olam Spices and Chile Peppers facilities, and for meeting the financial objectives set for the Transportation area. Manage the daily traffic of inbound and outbound activity balancing service (performance) standards and cost objectives. Drive and facilitate activities that improve coordination and communication within the transportation department and other departments throughout the corporation (Operations, Procurement, Sales, Finance, HR, IT). Manage third party & leased warehousing logistics activities for Olam Spices and Chile Peppers locations from a transportation perspective for hauling agreements, customer deliveries, contracts and selecting optimum cost alternatives. Foster the development and cultivation of positive business relationships with the company’s logistics customers and vendors; direct pricing and performance reviews in order to identify service and revenue improvement opportunities and to manage costs. Responsible for execution of existing procedures and development of ongoing Transportation Management systems and procedures which support the missions of the transportation department to protect the personnel, product, and facility assets under the care of the Transportation team. Responsible for the preparation and management of budgets for the transportation area. Ensures that identified objectives are adequately tracked for timely completion and demonstrates knowledge and control over area activities. Evaluate and review the company’s logistics operations business practices, update and develop process documentation, streamline opportunities, and eliminate non-value-added activities. Develop technical and personnel skills within the organization to meet future requirements and promote continuous improvement of the department. Responsible for maintaining a safe working environment that results in an accident-free workplace. Responsible for maintaining Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) required for transportation of food-grade products. Oversee and ensure all logistics-related operations comply with applicable environmental, health, safety, and other regulatory rules and regulations (DOT, HIPAA). Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Logistics, Industrial Engineering, or related field is required. Five (5) years’ experience with active transportation management is required. Two (2) years Accounts receivable/Accounts Payable (AR/AP) experience is preferred. SAP ERP experience is strongly preferred. Oracle Transportation Management Software is strongly preferred. Knowledge of basic general ledger accounting is required. Excellent interpersonal skills are required. Ability to work in a team atmosphere, and successfully collaborate with internal and external stakeholders is required. Strong orientation for customer service is required. Ability to work in fast-paced environment with multiple competing priorities is required. Ability to solve complex problems and present effective and efficient solutions in a clear and concise manner to management is required. Ability to successfully transition new software programs with minimal impact to customer service is required. Strong negotiation skills are required. Strong attention to detail is required. Proficient in Microsoft Office products including Excel, Outlook, and Word is required.
