Scope/Purpose of the Position
The Underwriting Supervisor is responsible for training, coaching and otherwise assisting Junior and Senior Underwriters with their assigned duties and assisting the Underwriting Manager with special projects. The Underwriting Supervisor assists to minimize the risk exposure of the organization by certifying applications are underwritten to the applicable parameters.
Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions Administrative Assist in resolving problems or issues on loan files within the team, elevating to management as appropriate. Assist with completing thorough analysis of loan applications when volume is high to determine compliance with agency, company and investor guidelines and subsequently issuing compliant loan decisions on each application. Coach and mentor to Certified Processors including but not limited to reviewing test cases conducted by nominees and providing recommendations and feedback to Management. Complete self-provisioned and assigned training and research to maintain a current working knowledge of agency and investor guidelines and policies. Conduct 2nd Level Reviews as needed on files underwritten by Senior or Junior Underwriters. Mentor Loan Processing staff on underwriting related guidelines and scenarios. Monitor pipeline to ensure timely and compliant flow of files based on Company service level agreements and Metrics Respond to loan audits and post-closing request for additional documentation in a timely manner. Responding to pre-closing QC responses via the ACES portal. Work with Underwriting Manager to address trending as identified. Supervision Understands and adheres to all department, division, and corporate policies and procedures as it pertains to their job responsibility. Oversees the day-to-day operations of the department staff, which includes, but is not limited to: Training, coaching and mentoring staff to perform their best with assigned work. Creates a positive work environment; sets clear objectives and monitors performance; Reviewing team members' work and evaluating associate performance on a regular basis to provide constructive feedback to improve and/or enhance performance Conducts performance evaluations in accordance with the company policy. Holding staff accountable to established performance levels to achieve individual and group goals and maintain consistent practices. Constantly review policies, procedures, and workflow to ensure efficiency Training of new hires and the ongoing mentoring of existing staff. Communicates clearly and proactively with department to ensure consistency. Solid decision-making skills with display of professionalism in maintaining confidentiality. Ability to build strong relationships with internal business partners to achieve success. Proven ability to motivate, develop, coach and mentor staff at all levels. Ability to rapidly acquire detailed knowledge of departmental policies, practices and procedures. Strong time management skills, fast learner, self-motivated, and comfortable taking initiative and handling multiple responsibilities simultaneously. Committed to taking responsibility and ownership for agreed actions and delivery. Reports to work on a daily and timely basis. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Five-seven (5-7) years prior experience underwriting credit and collateral to conventional Agency, FHA, VA, USDA guidelines Direct Endorsement (DE) or Staff Appraisal Reviewer (SAR) Designation, required Prior experience underwriting non-conforming (JUMBO) loan applications to private investor standards, strongly preferred Prior experience underwriting to bond agency standards, strongly preferred Renovation product knowledge, preferred Prior experience in a Senior Loan Processor or Underwriter position analyzing conventional, FHA, VA, USDA, and bond loan applications. Prior experience with the Ellie Mae Encompass Loan Origination System or similar preferred.
