Job Description

An internship with the National MS Society is a form of experiential learning that integrates knowledge and theory learned in the classroom with practical application and skills development in a professional setting.

The National MS Society is offering an exciting internship opportunity with a Volunteer Engagement department focus. This internship can provide school credit and offers valuable experience in the non-profit, engagement, relationship management, and event planning industries. Candidates must have excellent customer service skills, be self-motivated, a team player, results-oriented, and dedicated to making a difference in the lives of people living with and affected by MS.

Intern(s) will assist with the execution of all Volunteer Engagement functions. These tasks will include volunteer outreach, recruitment, communications, cultivation, and recognition for the Walk MS events taking place April-May 2022 Event Season. This role also includes some administrative, database management, and research activities.

 

What You Will Do:

Each day this intern will work closely with the Volunteer Engagement Specialist in developing outreach lists and making calls to potential volunteers, cultivating new volunteer group and individual recruitment, contacting prior volunteers, setting up and fulfilling maintenance in Galaxy Digital (volunteer platform), continuously updating and maintaining database records, and assisting with in-kind sponsorships related to volunteer engagement. Learning Objectives

Intern(s) will receive a thorough overview of non-profit volunteer engagement work, most specifically related to fundraising events. Gain relevant work experience in non-profit volunteer engagement field (60%) Learn strategies to increase participant engagement through cultivation, recruitment and fundraising activities (20%) Gain experience working within a team and committee environment (10%) Opportunity to learn about multiple sclerosis and work with the leading national organization supporting people impacted by MS (10%)
What You Will Bring: Currently pursuing a degree as a Junior or Senior in Undergrad or any year in Graduate School Open to all majors with a preference for the following: Business Studies, Communications, Entrepreneurship, Event Management, Hospitality Management, Leadership Management, Non-Profit Management, Organizational Leadership, Public Relations, Project Management, Recreation Services, Sociology, Social Work or Sports Leadership/Management Ability to work 10-16 weeks (flexible), 12-20 hours (flexible) per week for a maximum of 180 hours during the course of the Internship Must be available through 2022 Walk MS event season (end date of May 31, 2022) Familiar with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, etc.) Eagerness to learn in a virtual environment (where applicable) Ability to represent the National MS Society in a professional manner Detail oriented and strong organizational skills Great written and verbal communication skills Must be personable, outgoing and self-motivated Ability to work part of a team and independently Capacity to lead a group of volunteers to complete tasks/projects Adaptable, flexible and open to projects with a desire to learn Ability to step up as a leader when the opportunity presents itself Occasional/Potential work outside of regular business hours Access to a computer and webcam If you do not have access to a computer with capability to video conference, one will be provided in office, or loaned to you for the duration of the internship and returned to the Society at completion of internship.  Knowledge of computer programs (Microsoft Office, CRM systems a plus) and data entry procedures Must be phone and internet research savvy What We Will Offer: We are dedicated to your personal and professional growth while you work with us and beyond. This is an in office paid internship available for Spring 2022. The hourly rate is $15. All internship offers are contingent upon the candidate showing proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (with a COVID-19 FDA-approved vaccine or a COVID-19 vaccine granted Emergency Use Authorization) by the start date of the internship. A candidate is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after receiving the second dose of a two-dose vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) or one dose of a single dose vaccine (Johnson & Johnson/Janssen) or as defined by the Center for Disease Control.
